Earth blocks for natural cooling

Berlin Tegel Airport, June 2026 -

A research and design-build project by the Berlin University of Applied Sciences and Technology (BHT) exploring how historical principles of passive cooling can be adapted to today’s urban conditions. The research structure is being realised by BHT students using timber and earth blocks produced by earthbound.

Located at the Urban Tech Republic at the former Tegel Airport, the project combines low-tech cooling principles with natural and circular building materials.
